Welcome everyone to this week’s Wichita Weekly Update where I give you a rundown of the recent local news, some fun facts about Wichita and upcoming events over the next week. Today is Tuesday, November 3rd aka Election Day.

The Wichita foodie version of the Avengers has officially assembled. Eddy from Wichita by EB has brought together the likes of Fert the Foodie, Telehue Food, Live Local, Just Try It, Lynn Avants, Aaron McMullin, EB, and yours truly, Wichita Life.

Update on Local Political Scandal

After the scandal that has come to light in recent weeks and months, Michael O’Donnell has decided to step down if he wins reelection and will not take a 2nd term as Sedgwick County Commissioner. If he does win, the republican party will choose who his replacement will be.

Wichita Schools and COVID-19 Update

Wichita Public Schools are pushing back the date that students would return to school in a hybrid model from November 9th to November 12th. They will reconvene on November 9th to discuss once more. The COVID cases are rapidly increasing with the 14 day moving average positive case numbers topping 17% yesterday and Wichita hospitals saying they are almost out of ICU beds.

Eat Local, Drink Local

There is a new promotion to eat local. Eat Local, Drink Local is a promotion of 12 restaurants / bars downtown. If you visit all 12 during November, then you are entered to win a grand prize of $50 gift cards per place or $600 in gift cards total! The participating places included The Kitchen, Doo-Dah Diner, Reverie Coffee Roasters, Monica’s Bundt Cake, District Taqueria, Jenny Dawn Cellars, Hopping Gnome Brewing Company, Public at the Brickyard, Piatto Neapolitan Pizzeria, The Anchor, The Donut Whole, and the Monarch.

Non-Profit Organization working to open affordable daycare Downtown

Downtown Daycare Center closed after 43 years of service in 2014. Now they are trying to help fill the gap once more.

Wind Surge Drops from AAA to AA

Before the Triple A Wichita Wind Surge could play a game, the league has restructured. Wichita will now move to AA and from what I understand, no longer be an affiliate team for the Miami Marlins.

Fun Fact

We have a lot of famous or relatively famous actors, musicians, ETC who were born here in Wichita. If you’re familiar at all with the CW or the superhero show the Arrow based on the Green Arrow you may be familiar with Colton Haynes who is also famous for MTV’s Teen Wolf. Colton was born right here in Wichita.
