NEWS
COVID-19
COVID-19 Variant Strains
There are a few variant strains of COVID-19 around the world including from the UK and Brazil.
These two newer strains account for most of the 14% increase in variant cases over this past weekend.
There were 54 new variant cases from Friday to Monday and now a total of 438 variant cases.

TOGETHER WITH MIDWEST FRESH HOMES
The housing market is HOT right now.
It is a seller’s market which means as soon as houses go on the market, they are snatched up.
So, that brings up the question, is now a good time to sell?
The first step is finding the value of your home, luckily this is one of the tools that Erica and Midwest Fresh Homes offers.

Job Growth
COVID took a toll on many people. Some people were fortunate enough to work from home, some people had to go to work every day and risk their health, and others lost their jobs all together.
The local non-farm employment in the Wichita area is expected to grow 3.1% and add 8000 jobs.
This isn’t just for aviation jobs (Textron and Spirit), this will also affect the restaurants around town. Many businesses are barely hanging on as they need to fill positions ASAP.
MUSIC
Venue Details
The major music venues in Wichita are making more and more announcements. This includes Hartman Arena, Intrust Bank Arena, The Cotillion, The Orpheum and Wave.

- Cotillion: Kolby Cooper May 15, Buckcherry June 2, Tab Benoit June 12, **Melissa Etheridge August 15 – attendance at half capacity until July

NXTSTAGE Pilot Competitions 2021
NXTUS is hosting the next round of pilot competitions. If you run, or know someone who runs, a FinTech (Financial Tech) or CommunityTech / HealthTech company, now is your time to shine. Go apply for this competition and be on the cutting edge of innovation in Wichita.
Chick N Max to Expand
Max and his chicken are beginning their nationwide takeover. The first wave of expansion outside of Wichita for the Wichita-based restaurant will be in KC, St. Louis, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Chip Shortage

These chips can also be found in computers, washers and dryers.
There is a global shortage of semiconductor chips and the trickle down is affecting Wichita businesses. Most newer cars require chips and that’s causing a big shortage of vehicles on the market.
SPORTS
Ron Baker Returns…to the gridiron?
Ron will “take the field” for the Wichita Children’s Home. Go to the Wichita Force game tomorrow night at the Kansas Star Arena vs Sioux City Bandits. Ron Baker will be in attendance and a portion of each ticket will go to his charity of choice!
POLITICS
Transgender Athlete Bill
The Fairness in Women’s Sports Act (a bill to ban transgender athletes from playing in girls’ / women’s sports was vetoed by Gov. Laura Kelly.
This bill then went before the Kansas Senate where it was attempted to flip the veto, but this attempt failed.
Had this bill passed, Wichita likely would have lost bids to host the NCAA tournament in future years based on a statement from the NCAA saying it would only hold tournaments in “locations where hosts can commit to providing an environment that is safe, healthy and free of discrimination…”
