🌾 What’s next for the Boathouse?

Boathouse Debacle

The Wichita Boathouse is 18 years into a 99 year lease for $1 per year with the City of Wichita and Bill Koch’s America3Ā Foundation.

The contract stated that the tenant would operate and maintain (repairs to the building itself) in exchange for just a buck per year in rent.

Unfortunately, no maintenance was done and it needs a roof badly. With no penalty fee for ending the lease early, once the City requests the tenant to fix the roof, they’ll likely just default and leave it to the city.

I have some ideas of what the city (or someone else) could do with the space, but what are your thoughts:

What do you think of the situation with the Boathouse?

Let us know your ideas!

Together with Butler Community College

ButlerĀ Community College is turning 100, and the Grizzlies are throwing a party!

One of the biggest highlights?

The annual GrizzlyFest Parade, rolling through Downtown El Dorado on Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m. Expect plenty ofĀ ButlerĀ pride, festive floats, local groups, and hometown spirit.

Rose Hill Bond

Some schools can’t get bonds passed. Meanwhile Rose Hill just finished theirs.

Crown Uptown Vote

The owner of Crown Uptown submitted a demolition permit back in July and now the City Council will discuss the future tomorrow.

The outcome will be release the building for demo or extend the hold from 1 month (which ends August 26th) up to 180 days to allow other options.

My guess is they extend it to 180 days, the building gets put on the Wichita Register of Historic Places which doesn’t automatically mean it can’t be demo’d, but then the permit can be denied.

Court Date

If you have a court date coming up, the city might shoot you a text rather than sending you a letter, or maybe both? I’m not sure.
