Witch-ita Ranks 64th

WalletHub ranked Wichita the 64th best Halloween city out of 100, including 52nd for trick-or-treater friendliness. Not exactly a scream, but we'll take it.

Cooking For A Cause
The Pando Initiative's 10th annual Cooking for a Cause is 11/7 from 6:30-9:30pm at Kansas Star Casino Arena, with dozens of local chefs, including high school culinary classes, competing for Top Chef. Tickets are $150, and the money supports Pando's work with more than 50,000 Kansas students. Can't make it? The silent auction opens to the public 10/26.
Donate A Car
WSU Tech's Drive & Thrive program is looking for donated vehicles, which go to working families who earn them through finance classes and a car clinic. If you itemize your taxes, the donation can be written off. For example, a car worth $4,000 given to someone in need could knock $4,000 off your taxable income, and in the 22% bracket that saves you about $880 on federal taxes (contact them to donate).
Lutz Stepping Down
League 42 founder Bob Lutz will step down as executive director at the end of the 2027 season. Since 2013, nearly 3,000 kids have played in the league for free, and it helped drive the McAdams Park renovation.
Making Strides Volunteers
Thousands walked in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Equity Bank Park, raising tens of thousands of dollars. The American Cancer Society says it always needs more volunteers.
Pantry With Choices
StepStone's south Wichita pantry now lets clients pick their own food, including fresh produce, farm eggs, and meat. Staff say the change has cut waste and increased gratitude.

Trees For Clapp Park

LOCAL
Trick-Or-Treat Guide
Halloween is Saturday, and common trick-or-treat hours are 5:30pm to 9:30pm, with sunset at 6:31pm. A free Witch-ita Express shuttle runs every 30 minutes from The Hub to College Hill, starting at 6pm. And don't forget that daylight saving time ends that night.
Jack-No-Lantern
The drought hit Kansas pumpkin patches hard, and some couldn't open at all. Klausmeyer Farm in Clearwater is making up for it with pig races, a haunted barn, and a 5-acre corn maze.
$1,000 Scholarship
We are teaming up with Wichita By E.B. to give a WSU student a $1,000 scholarship at the A Rose For Me cultural event, happening at 3pm on Sunday 11/15 at Brick & Mortar. Apply before the event, and the winner will be announced there.
Tanganyika For $20
Tanganyika Wildlife Park is holding its first Community Day on Sunday, 11/1, with admission just $20 per guest as a thank-you to the community. It's a good chance to meet Milani, the "miracle" giraffe calf who just joined the herd.
Freddy's At Koch
Freddy's is opening a stand at Koch Arena, and a new $5 value menu covers popcorn, chicken tenders, hot dogs, fries, and drinks. Season ticket prices haven't changed, and general admission starts at $15.
Shoes For SkillsUSA
East High's SkillsUSA students are collecting old shoes to raise money for state and national competitions, and they're at about 200 pairs so far. You can drop shoes off at East's main entrance.
