🌾 "There's nothing to do in Wichita"

Together With

This weekend will be warm, but it’s a great chance to explore and see when Wichita comes alive.

Let’s get to it!

- Landon

Wichita Forever Fest & 4 The City Block Party & Around the World

I can’t get into too much detail about each of these events because it could go on and on.

I will say though that I am so excited for the present and future of Wichita. Here are a few of the things to get excited about, but you can see the full events down below:

  • The Kansas Aviation Museum is hosting their first Flight Club Around the World to explore global cuisine.

  • The First Annual Wichita Forever Fest consisting of only local musicians and artists (100+ of them) at multiple venues

  • 4 The City Block Party hosted by our friends Jackstacks and DJ4theWin at the Wichita Boathouse!

Together with IdeaTek

Tired of bad internet? Take it from me.

I used to constantly fight with lagging speeds and dropped video calls until I finally switched my home internet to IdeaTek.

As an actual customer, I can tell you their Kansas-grown fiber is a complete game-changer. There are no contracts, no hidden fees, and if you ever need to call, a real person in Kansas actually answers.

They are running a massive Wichita push right now:

sign up this month and get 3 months at 50% off plus FREE installation using promo code 3SAVE50. Head over to the link below to check your address and see why I made the switch.

NONPROFIT

Provecho at Empower

Now 5 years after Empower opened, they will break ground on Provecho at the historic Nomar Theatre today at 11am!

“This isn’t just a groundbreaking, it’s the beginning of what’s next for the North End.”

Adult Children of Alcoholics

Anyone looking to recover from the effects of growing up in a dysfunctional home is welcome at a local Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) meeting. ACA is a free, non-religious spiritual recovery program offering support and community.

📍 Recovery Hub, 120 S. Ida

Thursdays: 6:30–7:30pm, Fridays: 1–2pm, Sundays: 2–3pm

Last Call!

August is here!

Come out and make some friends!

Here’s how it works:

🍽️ Take a quick quiz about your personality, interests, and food preferences.

✨ Get matched with five other Wichitans who fit your vibe (food preferences, budget, life stage, etc.).

📍 Your table of six meets for dinner on Tuesday, August 25th — the exact restaurant is revealed that morning.

🥂 After dinner, all groups are invited to a casual after-meetup to keep the conversation going (more on that below).

If you’ve been wanting to meet new people in town, this might be the easiest (and most fun) way to do it.

CIVIL

Transforming Wichita

Downtown Wichita (the org) put out their Downtown Wichita Action Plan 2035 recently.

This week, the Sedgwick County Commission and Wichita City Council both gave the thumbs up to move forward with the 10 year plan.

Crown Uptown

As expected, the Wichita City Council approved an extension up to 180 days to work on preservation opportunities and other possibilities for Crown Uptown Theatre after the owner filed for demolition a month ago.

Flocked

Lately, I hear more and more people talk about flock cameras. As I continue to hear more about these, I need to read up on them a bit more, but in the mean time here are a couple recent stories.

The first is about people’s concerns and how to find out if you’ve been “flocked” and the other about Haysville.

Derby Parks

Derby is already a poppin’ suburb, but now they’re about to get 3 parks revitalized starting with Amber Ridge Park then Glen Hills followed by Duck Creek.

Parking Garage

The signs are up at the new KU + WSU Wichita Biomedical Campus that will open in 2027.

Now for the next topic Wichita loves (to complain about): parking.

The plan is to build a 500-600 parking space parking garage.

LOCAL

Dog Days

The phrase “the dog days of summer” describe the hottest and most humid days of the summer.

It also describes when pools are slowly winding down and your doggos get to go schwimmin. Like in Derby last week. Or coming up at College Hill on September 7th.

Beat Shazam

I haven’t seen the show, but did you see a couple of Wichitans (Kelcy Mohr and Jenna Armagost) on the episode of Beat Shazam this week

Free Pets

You can get a free pet at the Kansas Human Society today and tomorrow!

Aliyah Funschelle

I first heard of The Gist a few years ago when I was really getting into the newsletter game. It is a sports publication with an emphasis on women’s sports.

S/o to local Wichitan doing big things in New York, Aliyah Funschelle on getting featured in the Gist!
