Good morning Wichita!

This is just the beginning of an awesome revitalization of the downtown area.

Let’s get to it!

A New Era
Shockers kick off Riverfront Stadium Legacy
Many people were and are nostalgic for the old Lawerence Dumont Stadium. There were many great memories and games played there, from the Wingnuts to Wranglers to the NBC World Series.
But it is finally time for the Riverfront Stadium to shine after a year delay due to COVID-19.
This past Saturday, the Shockers beat Houston 10-1 with an attendance of 7509 (which is the 7th highest all time Shocker baseball attendance).
Overall people had a great time, but here is some of the feedback people had around the new stadium and game day execution:
Pros:
- Not a bad seat in the house
- patio / party deck options
- plenty of shade
- grass seating
- good food / drink selection
- great staff
- awesome atmosphere
Cons:
- Parking
- Line to get in
- Pricey drinks
- low alcohol supply
- Speakers were way too loud for the music
The good outweighed the bad and there will always be kinks in any first time opening. I am excited to get out there.
As far as the good for the community, the stadium is expected to bring in $38 million of revenue for the city over 20 years and that’s on the conservative side. I can only imagine the good it’ll bring for the downtown and Delano area as a whole.
ENTERTAINMENT
Return of the Big Screen
It has been a long time since I have enjoyed some buttery popcorn and a pop (or soda, soda pop? What do you call it?) at the Warren / Regal.
The Warren West will finally reopen on April 23 while the Warren East is scheduled to open May 7 and the Warren Old Town on May 21.
Are you hesitant to go back to the movies or are you excited?
Other Venues to Return
There have been small concerts and performances the last year, but nothing crazy big. Many of the big players in town have been shut down.
This is set to change in the near future with some of the following events:
- Orpheum: May 21 – Jenny Wood Concert
- Intrust Bank Arena: April 23 – 24 – Professional Bull Riders
- The Wichita Thunder have been playing!
- Wave: April 25 – Fastball @ Smokey Sunday Fest features Kill Vargas, The Cavves, Miami Over Moon and more.
- The Cotillion: May 15 – Kolby Cooper
BUSINESS
New Restaurants and more
New restaurants constantly pop up in Wichita. No one is better at staying on top of all the new places than Wichita by EB. One example is Blue Hook Cajun Seafood & Bar which is located in the old east side Granite City building.
