Good morning Wichita! Happy New Year! We officially can leave 2020 in the rearview mirror and can officially call hindsight 2020. We hope that 2021 is the start to a great era in Wichita. We can make Wichita what we want it to be.
In today’s Wichita Weekly Update:
- Snow, Earthquakes, etc
- Century II Confusion
- Live Music
Let’s get it!
Last Earthquake of 2020
You may have been woken up on Wednesday, December 30th around 5am by what felt like to us the biggest earthquake we have ever felt. The earthquake was reported as a magnitude 3.9 by the Kansas Geological Survey. This is the largest earthquake in the last 5 years.Retired WSU Geology Professor Dr. Sal Mazzullo believes there are unmapped faults moving in east Wichita.
Snow Day
It seems like whenever there is a lot of hubbub about snow storms, nothing comes of them. And then there are times like this last week, where I personally didn’t heart much about it beefore we received the most snow we have had in 7 years as we received 6.5 inches! Check out our Instagram to see many different snow pictures!
Air Travel Takes Flight
Eisenhower airport say the highest number of passengers since March when 1878 passengers traveled on December 27. This is still down form the year prior, but it is an improvement. Do you feel safe traveling yet?
New Car Wash in Town
A $2 million car wash is being built in northwest Wichita. Tommy’s Express Car wash will open at the corner of 13th and Tyler in time for a July 2021 opening.
STILL Unknown Future for Century II
Due to the pandemic, the city of Wichita laid off all 29 workers at Century II over the summer as most events were cancelled or postponed. The city is looking to privatize, but not ownership of the building. They are looking to privatize the management of the facility. They want YOUR feedback, go let them know what they should do with the building.
Feel free to send in any events you’d like to share!
