Good morning Wichita! This may open a can of worms, but what is your point of view on the Century II debate? Do you think it’s possible/should we renovate? Or is it a lost cause and we need to tear it down? Let me know what you think!
In today’s Wichita Weekly Update:
- COVID Phase 2 Vaccine
- Big Winner $$$
- KSHSAA Ups Spectator Number

Change of Plan
As of January 20th, Sedgwick County was in short supply of the COVID-19 vaccine. Gov. Laura Kelly announced the second phase of the Kansas state vaccination program which would make anyone 65+ eligible. The Wichita area will have to start Phase 2 with those aged 83 or older and work its way down to age 65, so it could be weeks or months before the 65 year olds actually have the opportunity.

Dolla, Dolla Billz Y’all
You may or may not like to play the lottery. Sometimes, it’s worth buying just for the fun of what you COULD buy. One lucky individual in “south-central Kansas” won the second-tier prize of $1 million on January 19th. Although they didn’t win the $865 million Mega Millions Jackpot, they did match 5 numbers (just not the Mega Ball). The counties in South Central Kansas include Barton, Rice, McPherson, Marion, Stafford, Reno, Harvey, Pratt, Kingman, Sedgwick, Butler, Barber, Harper, Sumner, and Cowley. So that lucky winner could just be your neighbor, or you.
The More, The Merrier
The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) has approved up to 4 spectators per participant at winter sports and activities. This is an increase from 2 people.
Christmas Come Late
An anonymous couple donated a $3.5 million estate gift to the WSU Foundation. Those eligible include students who meet financial need, have a 3.0+ GPA and work part-time.
Riverfront Progress?
After the pandemic slowed the momentum for the new Riverfront project in downtown Wichita, work could begin again. It felt like we were headed for a decision, whether that means tear down Century II or renovate it. What do you think? What should we do with Century II and the downtown area?
