Good morning Wichita! We hope you are enjoying these weekly updates, but we truly do want to hear from you. What types of news, events, etc do YOU want to see? Let us know! We respond to all emails.

In today’s Wichita Weekly Update:

– The Best Wingman

– Vice Mayor Johnson

– New Show, New Podcast

Let’s get it!

The Name is Johnson, Vice Mayor Johnson

Last Tuesday, the Wichita City Council unanimously approved Wichita’s new vice mayor. Councilman Brandon Johnson (who we had the pleasure of interviewing last year) was nominated and approved for the position which lasts for one year.

One Crane, Two Crane

You may have noticed two crane towers near the Sedgwick County Zoo. These are for a construction project which will last two years. This is a joint venture of Burns & McDonnell and Alberici (leading the design-build Wichita Water Partners.

The Show Must Go On

It seems like ages ago when we even had the opportunity to go to a music theatre production. The Wichita Music Theatre will rent the outdoor Capitol Federal Amphitheater in Andover. They typically would perform at Century II, but COVID ruins everything.

The Best Wingman a man could ask for

Before COVID ruined 2020, I knew we may be in for a rough year. Aero Plains Brewery shut down in February which meant I was losing access to my favorite beer: Wingman Wheat. Well, well, well 2021 might just be a complete turnaround as Wichita Brewing Company just purchased the Aero Plains assets via online auction and plan to start brewing Wingman Wheat and Aero Vice Tart Ale within a few weeks! Dilly Dilly!

Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Film Festival will be hosting showings at the Starlite Drive-In from January 28 – February 2. This is a change from the original locations of Mama.film Microcinema in The Lux, Groover Labs and the Wichita Art Museum.

Junior Football League Spring Season

2020 was the first year in 50+ years that the Greater Wichita Junior Football League (1st – 8th grades) was cancelled or postponed. With precautions in place, a spring season will begin on March 20th.

Back to School, Back to School in Wichita

In the fall, Wichita Middle and High Schools were fully remote. After a 5-2 vote last week, these students will return to in-person learning. This will be hybrid in person / remote. Students with last names A – L will be onsite Monday and Tuesdays, while M – Z will be onsite Thursday – Friday, all students will be remote on Wednesdays. This is similar to what some suburbs like Andover have been doing this school year.
