Welcome everyone to this week’s Wichita Weekly Update where I give you a rundown of the recent local news, some fun facts about Wichita and upcoming events over the next week. Today is Monday, August 17th.

WICHITA NEWS

First up, let’s go over some news from the last week:

City Vote on future of Century II Could be Non-binding

Here is your weekly update on the future of Century II. After the group Save Century II submitted a petition with 17000 signatures, the City Council is expected to decide whether to move forward with an election or not. The question is whether or not an election would be binding or merely advisory and it seems to be leaning in the latter. This means that the city would spend approximately $100000 on a public vote to get the pulse of the city, but would ultimately hold the decision rates one way or another. I’ll continue to keep you updated on all Century II news.

WICHITA FUN FACT

This week’s fun fact is…

Gage Brewer was an American musician and guitarist born in 1904 in Gage, Oklahoma. He moved to Wichita, Kansas in the mid-1920’s. He would go on to play the first electric guitar ever at the Shadowland Ballroom in Wichita. Yes, you heard that right. The first electric guitar played was right here in Wichita.
