On July 15, Governor Laura Kelly announced that all Kansas (she specified K-12), will not start the 2020-2021 school year until after Labor Day.

This comes as the COVID-19 numbers continue to rise. Wichita School District USD259 had just released plans for a soft launch prior to this announcement.

KSHSAA – COVID-19 Delay

With the announcement of the school delay, this directly affects all high school and middle school sports. The idea behind the delay is to allow numbers to slow down and hopefully curve numbers similar to those seen in states like Florida. It is hard to say exactly how this will affect the 2020 Football / Volleyball / Fall sport seasons, but I imagine games will have to be cut as the start of practice is delayed.
