When you think of fountains, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Maybe it’s the Trevi Fountain in Rome? Or the Apollo Fountain in Paris? Or maybe even the Bellagio Fountains in Viva Las Vegas?

Bellagio Fountains

But what about the Fountains at WaterWalk (in Wichita)?

FOUNTAINS AT WATERWALK

Fountains

You have surely been by the fountains at the WaterWalk. They might not have been glowing and putting on a show, but you’ve likely parked near there to watch fireworks by the river, head to a baseball game, or stop by for Food Truck Sundays.

Back in October of 2012, these fountains were installed at the WaterWalk (605 S Wichita Street – east of Gander Mountain).

The goal of this high quality h2o was to add to the quality of life downtown and encourage development down by the river.

WALTZING WATERS SHOW

WATERWALK
Waltzing Waters Show

You can catch a show (~10 to 15 minutes long) at noon, 8pm, 9pm or 10pm Thursday-Sunday during the months of May-October (the nice weather months).

Check out an example of the beautiful choreographed music, lights (a mix of genres including country, classic rock, classical, and 80’s rock) paired with a water show:

Some fun facts about the fountains:

  • 150 feet long
  • more than 1200 custom nozzles
  • 27,000 horsepower
  • pump 22,000 gallons per minute (enough to drain an average sized swimming pool in less than 45 seconds)
  • regular “fountain season” runs from May until October
  • they don’t run when winds exceed 15 mph

If that fountain wasn’t enough for you, just a short walk away to the north, the Hyatt has a nice water feature as well – minus the dancing lights and music.
