Share the Season: Supporting Families in Need During the Holiday Season

Wichita, KS – Share the Season is looking for donations and applicants as the holidays near. Share the Season provides direct assistance to individuals and families facing hardship, with payments made directly to service providers. To be eligible, recipients must be employed or retired and experiencing a recent, unexpected financial setback.

For over two decades, Share the Season has been a beacon of hope for families in the Wichita and surrounding communities, providing vital financial assistance at a time when they need it most. Since its founding in 2000, Share the Season has embodied the true spirit of the holiday season—giving to those facing unexpected financial hardships.

“Share the Season’s mission is simple: to help those who need it most when the holidays can feel like the hardest time of the year,” said Vickie Kline, executive director of NonprofitGO about Share the Season. “We are incredibly grateful for our community partners, donors, and volunteers who make this work possible. Together, we’re able to provide assistance that has a meaningful, lasting impact.”

Made possible through the generous support of community partners—including INTRUST Bank, NonprofitGO, The Salvation Army, and The Active Age—Share the Season raises funds to help families bridge the gaps left by other assistance programs. These funds are used to cover critical needs such as medical expenses, car repairs, utility bills, funeral costs, and more, ensuring that individuals can keep up with essential expenses during challenging times.

Examples of support provided through Share the Season include helping a parent cover car repair costs so they can get to work, paying for vital medical expenses not covered by insurance, assisting with funeral expenses, or covering utility bills for families who have lost income due to illness.

In 2021 alone, Share the Season raised over $240,000 and assisted 260 families. Since its inception, the program has raised more than $4.4 million and provided help to over 4,200 families in need.

Please Note: If a household’s only income is SSI or SSDI, they do not qualify. This program does not purchase food, clothes, or furniture, and is not a toy assistance program.
