Dancing Colors

March 1 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

The Envision Arts Gallery is excited to welcome Denae Adwell with her first solo exhibition titled Dancing Colors on March 1, 2024.

Denae Adwell was raised in Valley Center, Kansas where she graduated from Valley Center High School in 2019. After graduation, Denae attended the Dunlap Transition Campus @ Chisholm, a school designed to help differently abled students transition from high school to young adulthood.

As a young girl, Denae was diagnosed with having a brain tumor, leading to aggressive treatments at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri. The treatment ultimately caused a rare form of visual impairment, leaving her with double vision and no depth perception. Denae joined Envision Arts 12 years ago where she continues to grow and thrive as an artist.

Dancing Colors features a collection of vibrantly painted canvases and ceramic house-like forms that explore the intricate relationships between colors, materials, textures, and of course, play. Using a variety of tools and techniques, Denae captures the essence of experimental expression in all its visual and tactile beauty. Each painting conversing with its neighbor in a seemingly choreographed dance of bending and overlapping arcs of color that will delight the senses and inspire the audience to move and explore her world through each work of art.

Denae is now 22 years old and has had her work featured in the Aloft Hotel of Northeast Wichita and City Arts. Denae’s most significant exhibit was her tactile replica of, I AM A MAN by Hank Willis Thomas. Using tactile materials such as black velvet and tactile glittered paper that were cut on the Cricut machine and adhered to white boards. The work was made in collaboration with the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University as part of the award-winning community project, Ulrich + Artist + You Billboard Project and featured in Tactile Replications at Mark Arts in Wichita, Kansas.

Join us for First Friday at the Envision Arts Gallery on March 1 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM to celebrate the opening of this exhibition.
