Good morning Wichita!

It may be tempting to go up to Han when you see him at Sabor or Connie’s, but leave him be so he keeps coming back. More on that later.

Congrats to Jonathan (we will email you) for winning our coffee shop gift card giveaway and signing up this week. Keep an eye out for an awesome referral giveaway very soon!

In today’s Wichita Weekly Update:

  • Han Solo pitstop
  • Flights Take Off
  • Opening Day

Let’s get to it!

EVENTS

CORONAVIRUS

Vaccinations

Now that everyone in Kansas 16 and older has the opportunity to get the COVID vaccine, the numbers are increasing. As of Wednesday, 931,653 (or 32% of population) have received their first shot. 503,476 have received the final dose.

A lot of people would prefer a single shot to the double, which means getting the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine rather than Pfizer or Moderna. According to the county website, Tuesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 15 are dedicated to J&J distribution. All other dates and times are Pfizer.

Find a vaccine here.

POWERED BY THE WICHITA THUNDER

The Wichita Thunder are having a great season.

They also have a slew of home games you can attend!

Keep an eye out for the game next Saturday (4/17) for #ILOVEWICHITA night for a special giveaway for the first 500 fans!

CIVIC

Downtown Library

The downtown library is getting used more than it has in a long time with it being one of the hubs for vaccinations. Fisch Haus (Commerce Street art collective) has been in talks for using it as an Open Studio.

What else do you think we could do there?

Han Solo

You may have seen Han Solo or Indiana Jones walking around. This is par for the course in the first 3-4 months of every year in recent memory.

Harrison Ford often comes for 3-4 days each year to get his plane serviced (he is more than just a pilot for the Millenium Falcon).

He has some favorite spots like Sabor and Connie’s.

BUSINESS

Aerospace Supply Company files bankruptcy

We all know how volatile the aircraft industry can be..especially in a pandemic. Following the suspension of the Boeing 737 Max as well as pandemic, TECT Aerospace filed for bankruptcy.

Flights take off

People are starting to get more and more comfortable flying again. In the first 3 days of this month, the travel numbers are up 931% over 2020. We should expect this to continue to increase, although we won’t reach pre-covid numbers for a while.

SPORTS

Opening Day

The opening day for Riverfront Stadium is FINALLY here! After a year delay, the Wichita State Shockers will play the first game at the new stadium.

There will be ~7000 fans at the stadium on Saturday. The stadium is expected to fill many seats, but will still enforce masks.

This is the start of a beautiful relationship, I can feel it.
